How Mainworthy works Diagram

People, pipelines and agents record results in the same shape. Each result says whether its basis is exact, assumed at the case's current version, or unresolved.
Edits to cases and findings from a review are evidence too. A finding is advice about a case or a change, not a pass.

Detectors raise a question for each cause: an edit to a case, a test with no case, a failure, a finding, or the closing of a run. The same cause seen again joins its question, and while an answer to it still holds, nobody is asked twice.
A question waits for the person the policy names. Where the policy allows a rule, Mainworthy records the rule's answer at once. An agent's answer settles a question only where the policy lets agents answer and the agent holds the right. Otherwise it is advice, or is refused.

A decision records who answered, on what evidence and under which clause of the policy. It can change a case's head version, which case a test belongs to, how a failure counts, whether a run is closed, or the policy itself.
Withdrawing a decision undoes what it did and nothing else. Both decisions stay in the record.

The gate counts the results that people and pipelines reported, under the decisions in force. A pass counts without any question or decision.
An agent's results never move a commit's gate. They count only in a planned run that asks for agents, on a case that admits them.
CI reads the verdict with mainworthy gate, and people read it on the Changes screen. Pending needs evidence, blocked needs an answer, failed needs a fix, and passed means something was proven and nothing is outstanding.
